Jersey Boys at CAPA event

My friend Erin recently invited me to photograph a beautiful reception for a few actors from the Broadway show 'Jersey Boys'. The event was organized by CAPA and took place at the Southern Theatre Columbus downtown hosting close to 200 guests. Here are a few photos from the evening.

Bill Conner (the president of CAPA), Dino Tripodis (the host of the Morning Show on Sunny 95), Joseph Leo Bwarie ('Frankie Valli'- Jersey Boys), John Gardiner (Billy Dixon and 14 other characters- Jersey Boys) and Dustin Grovemiller (CAPA)

windmills

I've driven to Chicago at least once or twice a year for the last 12 years and this year I was pleasantly surprised to see hundreds of windmills just a few miles north of Indianapolis. They look absolutely stunning in an evening setting, right when the sun sets, but I was able to capture them on the way back to Columbus, on a beautiful cloudy afternoon in October.

Honorable mention at the Lens & Leaves Camera Club

Tonight's topic at Lens & Leaves Camera Club monthly meeting was underwater photography. The presenters were a cool couple from Wisconsin who recently moved to Columbus, OH- Frank and Audrey Begun- who scuba dive all over the world and specialize in photographing underwater world. They also judged our entries for monthly contest (generally, only nature photography is allowed to enter competition but this month 'the hand of man' was permitted).

I submitted two of my Hill of Crosses photos and one of them got an honorable mention and will be displayed at the Blacklick Woods Metro Park for a month.

Double Take: Uncommon View of Common Things (Updated 7/8)

Don't forget- this weekend is the opening of a new photography exhibit at the High Road Gallery in Worthington where two of my photographs are displayed. The exhibit is through July 24 and if you don't get a chance to stop by this Sunday (2 to 4PM), visit it before it ends. From what I could see there is a lot of great work displayed there and the gallery itself is very cute and cosy (conveniently located right by the library in Worthington).

*Update: the 'Approaching a Crossroad' won the third place prize!

Book covers

The assignment for my digital painting class was to design a cover for a book.

The first one I did was a cover for a novel book. I used a photo I took in Aruba for inspiration.

The second one is a book cover for a coffee- shop- readings book. I first photographed myself with a cup of coffee and then created a digital painting of it. While I didn't like it as much as the one above, it was still a fun attempt...

Photos published by Birzieciu Zodis

In the last few years I've been photographing the Strongest Man Competition for couple of newspapers in Lithuania. This year, I also wrote an article about the event. My photos from the Arnold Classic 2010 Strongest Man competition along with the article that I wrote were recently published by 'Birzieciu Zodis'! It came out in a Friday issue and filled two and a half pages of the newspaper. Here are a few photos from the event that weren't printed.

After a few tries of unsuccessfully picking up the stone Z. Savickas pulled it together and threw it to where it needed to go

Business stationary

In one of my graphic design classes an assignment was to come up with a name and then design a logo and business stationary for a made up company specializing in secure file transmitting.

First, I sketched 8 different logos. Instructor then narrowed down to top 3 and I made the final selection (thumbnail #9):

The logo was then designed in Adobe Illustrator.

Next, I designed a business card (front and back)...

... business envelope...

... and business letterhead.

And finally, a quarter page black and white add to run in a local newspaper.
